Messaging policy

How the contact form on a profile works, and what happens when somebody misuses it.

What the form is for

Individual members can switch on a contact form so that somebody who has found them on Acclaimedly can write to them once. It is for asking whether they can help, asking about their work, or picking up a conversation you have already had.

Your message is passed on by email. The member's address is never shown to you; your name, email address and message are passed to them so they can reply to you directly. If they reply, they choose to show you their address.

What is not allowed

Selling, marketing, recruiting, fundraising, link building, and anything sent to many members at once. Nothing abusive, threatening or deceptive, and nothing that pretends to be somebody else.

The same message sent to several members is treated as bulk, whoever sent it.

The limits

You must be signed in, so every message comes from a named account. You may write to a given member once. There is a limit on how many people you may write to each calendar month: three on the free plan and ten on a paid plan. The limit starts again on the first of the month.

A member can turn the form off at any time, and can ask us never to show their form to a particular person again.

Reporting a message

Every relayed email carries a link to report the message. A person at Acclaimedly reads every report. The sender is never told who reported them.

What happens to somebody who misuses it

The first upheld report is a written warning. A second within twelve months pauses messaging for thirty days. A third, or anything serious, ends messaging for that account and the account itself is reviewed. Harassment, threats and bulk selling can be stopped straight away.

If your messaging is paused or stopped we tell you by email. You have fourteen days to reply if you think it is wrong, and a second person will look at it.

What we keep

We keep the message, who sent it, who received it and when. The text of a message is erased after ninety days; the rest is kept so that repeated misuse can be dealt with. Only the member it was sent to, and Acclaimedly staff, can read a message.

This sits alongside our terms of service.
