How rankings work

You and your company

Plenty of people have a profile for themselves and a profile for the business they run. Both are welcome, and both can be ranked. What cannot happen is the same person appearing twice in one list.

A person and a firm are not in the same race

A customer choosing between a broking firm with a team behind it and a broker working alone is making a different decision each time, so the two are ranked separately and the lists say which is which.

So you can hold both, and be ranked in both

If you run a firm and also keep a profile under your own name, the firm competes with firms and you compete with individuals. Nothing is taken from either.

Both of these can be true at once

Adelaide Mortgage Co is 3rd of 24 mortgage broking firms in Adelaide.

Jane Smith is 5th of 61 independent mortgage brokers in Adelaide.

But only once in any one list

A one-person company and the person who runs it are the same thing to a customer, so they are ranked in the same list - the one for individuals. That is where two profiles held by one person would otherwise both appear.

What we do not allow

Jane Smith at 5th and Jane Smith Mortgages at 9th, in the same list of independent mortgage brokers.

One broker, two places, and everybody below them pushed down twice by the same person. It also means one person collecting recommendations against two entries for the same work.

So where a person and a business they own would land in the same list, only one of them is placed. The other keeps its profile, its recommendations, its score and its page - it simply is not counted twice in that one list.

Which one is placed is yours to choose

Your company is placed unless you say otherwise. If you would rather be listed under your own name - many consultants, brokers and agents are better known personally than their trading name is - there is a setting for it.

On your own profile, under Achievements, there is a section called Rankings with a box marked “List me rather than my own company”. It takes effect at the next monthly run.

It is a setting rather than something we work out from your scores, because a rule that picked whichever was doing better each month would list you under your own name in October and under your company’s in November. You would have no way to predict it and we would have no way to explain it.

This is not a rule against having two profiles

Holding one for yourself and one for your business is normal and expected, and a business’s plan covers its people’s own profiles, so it is not something you are charged twice for. What the terms rule out is a second profile for the same person or the same business, made so that one of you appears twice or collects recommendations twice.
